Helen M. Thomson Smith, 89, of Monticello, formerly of Prince William Road, Delphi, died at 7:40 p.m. on June 19, 2006, at Twin Lakes Village in Monticello.

The daughter of James and Alma Kearns Thomson, she was born at the family farm near Flora on Nov. 20, 1916. She was a 1934 graduate of Flora High School and attended the RayVogue School of Design in Chicago. She lived and worked in Chicago and Lafayette before returning to Carroll County in 1938.

On May 23, 1941, she married John D. Smith in Delphi, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1988.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Families of Carroll County, Indiana, her ancestors having arrived in 1835. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Delphi.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Anne Hoffman of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sisters, Jane Thomson Bishop of Flora and Catherine Thomson Smith of Monticello, formerly of Delphi; five nieces and nephews, Eleanor Sprowl, Carol Grubb, James Vianco, Dick T. Bishop and Peter Bishop.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Thomson Vianco.

Aprivate burial service will be held at Masonic Cemetery.
