Comet staff report

Knoeller Knoeller The Delphi Public Library will host the kick-off event for "Carroll County on the Same Page," on Thursday, June 29, at 7 p.m.

The selected book for the county wide reading program is "Crow Lake" by Mary Lawson. A series of special events are being held, with each event based on a theme from the book. The kick-off event will be "Capturing Carroll County: A Sense of Place." It will focus on how county residents can express their connection to the place they live through poetry, photography, storytelling, writing, etc.

Dr. Christian Knoeller will read a selection of poems he has written about Carroll County from the perspective of someone new to the area who felt immediately at home. Photographs of the county will also be part of the program. Attendees will be encouraged to write about/draw/photograph places in Carroll County that have meaning for them, and submit their works for a "show and tell" celebration planned for October.

Knoeller, who teaches English at Purdue, has been a finalist in many national book competitions, including the National Poetry Series. His first collection, Completing the Circle (Buttonwood Press, 2000) was awarded the Millennium Prize, and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. A native of Brooklyn, New York, his career has taken him to Alaska, California, Oregon, Wisconsin, and now Indiana. He has traveled extensively and makes his home in a Victorian farmstead on Deer Creek.

Book discussions and monthly events will run through October.

Carroll County On the Same Page is open to all county residents, including those who do not live in a library district. Multiple copies of "Crow Lake" and event brochures are available at the Delphi, Camden, and Flora libraries.

All special events are open to the general public.
