A growing business is a good thing for any community. Although negative economic growth is frequently a topic of discussion at county commissioners' and city council meetings, there is one industry with good news in the works.

Gov. Mitch Daniels announced Monday from Tokyo that Indiana Packers Corporation in Delphi finalized a deal to create 125 new jobs at the local plant by expanding pork processing operations.

"Anytime we can get jobs added around here it's good for us," Delphi Mayor Lee Hoard exclaimed. "This is great for the community."

The newly announced expansion will result in further development inside the current facility according to executive vice president and plant manager Gary Jacobson. It means changes in production, distribution and shipping.

"It's really great to be with an organization that believes in expansion," Jacobson said. "We have a lot of good people here."

"We feel a lot of support from the community," he continued. "Without that support it wouldn't be the same."

Jacobson said the additional workers for the latest expansion will be hired in early fall and winter.
