Camp teaches safety
Carroll County REMC, a Touchstone Energy cooperative, sent 11 students to the fourth edition of the annual Touchstone Energy Camp held June 7-10 at Camp Tecumseh near Delphi. A total of 90 students from throughout Indiana participated, along with adults from 30 Indiana cooperatives. Local participants pictured are, from left: Front - Zackary Trent, Taylor Thompson, Karson Bender, Andrew Brown, Alec Maxwell. 2nd row Katie Schlueter, Kayla Watley, Emily Layman, Justine Alderman, Sydney Walker. Back Kay Ross, Dominic Puller and Peg Minnicus. While there was plenty of traditional camp fun, attendees also learned about environmental stewardship, power supply, and electric safety. For example, they saw a "live line" demonstration that showed the danger lurking in live power lines and provided instructions on what to do if they ever encounter a power line in a car accident or other situation. They also rode in a bucket truck, performed difficult tasks like removing a cotter pin from a coupling while wearing safety gloves, and used a lineman's 'hot stick' to grasp an eyehook.
