Sealmobile to visit FHC Indiana University School of Dentistry's mobile dental sealant program, Seal Indiana, will visit the Family Health Clinic of Carroll County (FHC) in Delphi on June 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., to provide oral examinations, sealants and fluoride treatments. A dental sealant is a plastic material that is applied to the chewing surface of back teeth where decay occurs most often. Sealants protect these teeth from plaque and acid that cause decay. Receiving sealants is comfortable and anesthetic is not needed. A fluoride treatment provides added protection against decay for all teeth. "Children who do not have a regular dentist, are not receiving regular dental care, or do not have dental sealants available through their family dentist are eligible for the program," said Dr. Karen M. Yoder, Seal Indiana program director. To have their children participate, parents must schedule an appointment and complete a consent packet, available at the FHC. For families with Medicaid or Hoosier Healthwise, the entire cost is covered. A sliding fee scale, based on family income, and a cap on services is available for children without insurance coverage. "However, no child will be refused care because of inability to pay," said Yoder. "Parents may talk with FHC or call Seal Indiana if they want their children to participate but cannot pay the fees." The 40-foot Sealmobile is staffed by faculty from the Indiana University School of Dentistry, dental assistants, and senior dental students and dental hygiene students. For more information, call FHC at (765) 564-3016. |
