Trapshooting grand slam
While competing at the Missouri State Shoot in May, trapshooter Wayne Downham shot a score of 100 x 100 from the 27-yard line. This completes his grand slam every trapshooter's goal.
A grand slam consists of scoring 200 x 200 singles (from the16-yard line), 100 x 100 doubles (where two targets are released at once), and 100 x 100 from the 27-yard line (the greatest handicap in trapshooting).
Downham has achieved the perfect singles score several times, and got the doubles in Texas last year, but he said for him, the 27-yard score was the hardest of all.
Downham is from rural Camden, and his wife, Mary, is a trapshooter, too. The Comet printed a story about them last January.
Brodar named Academic All-State
Delphi senior Ashley Brodar has been named to the 2006 girls softball Academic All-State team. Teammates Kirsty Flora and Alyssa Lewis both received honorable mention.
Delphi Pony
Delphi Auto Express Pony baseball team suffered its first loss of the season to the Frankfort Blue team in a 1-2 pitcher's dual. Tanner Cripe struck out 5, walked 5, allowing 1 hit and 1 run in 5 innings, while Neil Snoeberger struck out 3, walked 2, allowed 2 hits and 1 run.
Snoeberger got a hit and an RBI, driving in Adam Cunningham. Braden Atwood had 2 hits and Dustin Salyer 1 hit.
In the second game of the week, with Delphi leading Clinton Prairie 18-1, a thunderstorm stopped the game in the top of the third inning. Clinton Prairie declined to resume the game at another date, giving Delphi the win. Winning pitcher Chris Bender struck out 6, walked 3, gave up 1 hit and 1 run.
