Lights out in Flora
2006-06-07 / Front Page
Half of Flora was without power for about 25 minutes for the start of the work day on Tuesday morning. Ted Donoho (pictured) of Flora Utilities said three regulators failed at the north substation - cause unknown. He said they burned up internally and shorted out, causing a little oil leakage. The oil, which had started to catch fire, was contained with sand and floor dry. Regulators are what regulates the voltage on the lines. Donoho said they all checked out less than three months ago. To restore power to the town, workers threw the switches to tie into the south substation. Further testing will be done to discover the cause of the regulator failure.
