Republican Women
The May meeting for the Carroll County Republican Women was held at the Rockfield Community Center. Joyce Smith, IFRW president, was the guest speaker. Smith challenged everyone to be assertive in recruiting new members, and she shared fun ways to host special sessions to identify Republican voters. She also spoke words of encouragement and urged continued support for Republican candidates involved in the fall races.
The June meeting will be held June 21 at 12:30 p.m., at Gracie's (formerly Connie's) located in Flora. For the program, Jimpsie Doyel, Camden resident, will speak and provide a quilting demonstration. Reservations for lunch are required and should be called to Lucille Brown, 574-967-3061, or Betty Trapp, 574-967-3525, no later than June 17.
All interested Carroll County women and their guests are encouraged and welcome to attend.
Carroll County Chamber of Commerce
Carroll County Chamber of Commerce's temporary board met recently.
As of May 24, 68 members have paid. The goal is to get 100 members by June 30. There was discussion on compiling a new prospect list from the state Chamber to continue expanding the membership drive beyond the prior pledge drive.
A computer purchase of $1,000 was made. Current expenditures are being offset by dues income. To date, income from dues totals $10,140.19, and another $2,000 is ready for deposit.
Rusty Ashby is assisting in layout and format of a newsletter.
The Web design committee meeting is June 1 with Perfective Web Designs. They are still working on hosting and design.
The Economic Development Corporation's director position is being finalized and may be in place within the next month. The Chamber board was encouraged to attend the June 15 EDC meeting. The Chamber will again request the contribution of $20,000 per year for two years. The Chamber will also request status on the administrative assistant position.
The Comprehensive Land Use Planning Committee is in the process of compiling several studies to review. Dick Bradshaw suggested the Chamber try to get a representative on this committee.
There will be a luncheon on June 14 at Burlington. County businesses will provide brief presentations. A suggestion was made to open up some of the luncheons to non-members for membership recruitment.
Keith Chandler asked the board's permission to join the Delphi Rotary.
The next meeting of the Chamber will be June 22.
