Daughters of Union Vets honors Flora woman
The Department of Indiana Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War (1861-1865) met last weekend at Indiana University Kokomo.
On Friday evening, June 2, the officers met at a Kokomo motel. They also had dinner in Kokomo.
Following breakfast at IUK on Saturday, they opened the meeting with a greeting from the Sons of Union Veterans, who were meeting in the next room.
Later during the morning business session, they honored Esther M. Cook of Flora for her 50 years of service by having Tia and Melanie Cook of Flora place her pin on her shoulder.
Marilyn Sharp of Flora and her sister, Sharon Fish of Fishers, were two of the five new members initiated.
The Daughters joined the Sons for a Memorial Banquet and a Civil War program at noon.
In the afternoon session, the officers for 2006-2007 were installed.
Anyone who is of direct descent may contact Lee Ann Teller, the new department president, at 1-765455-0484, for more information.
