Representation is needed

It makes a great deal of sense for Carroll County to be represented by our own health department at the Twin Lakes Regional Sewer District board meetings. Our representative would be there to advise and answer questions of need or lack of.

Why? Because part of the duties of a county health department is to address issues of environmental health, including general community sanitation.

Who better than someone from our own health department to answer commissioner Bill Brown's question concerning how many septic systems are in need?

A major complaint of Carroll County residents who reside in Jefferson Township is the absence of Carroll County participation with the sewer district board.

GRW, design engineers for Phase 3 of the TLRSD project, estimates that 1,100 residences are involved in Carroll County.

The current hands-off approach of our county health department amounts to a disservice to our residents in the sewer district. Waiting until ground is broken to become involved puts Jefferson Township residents' futures in the hands of an "outside" group. That's too late.

Our county board of health needs to appoint a responsible representative to attend and participate in the TLRSD board meetings.
