1,000,000 pop tabs for Ronald's house
Camden Elementary School students collected over one million pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. The tabs weighed about 1,000 pounds and are worth somewhere around $400. The 52-room house hosted 1,600 families last year, six of them from Carroll County. It is located on the IUPUI campus, one block from Riley Hospital for Children. It takes about $1.2 million per year to operate the house, and $66,000 normally comes from pop tab contributions. Pictured left to right are: custodian Marion Blocher, who weighed and handled the tabs; teacher Pam Minier, who started the project six years ago; Ronald McDonald; and Debby Williams, principal.
