Neda M. Bushman
Neda M. Bini C o g h i l Bushman, 79, of 11098 N. L o w e Lakeshore Dr., M o n t i c e l l o died at 10:50 a.m. on May 5, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette. She had been ill since March of 2006.
Born on Sept. 30, 1926, in Livorno, Italy, she was the daughter of Marco and Anna Papini Bini. She attended private school in Livorno.
Her first marriage was to James F. Coghill on Feb. 7, 1946, in Livorno, and he died Sept. 17, 1972. Her second marriage was to Dale M. Bushman on June 25, 1974, in Delphi, and he died January 4, 1989.
She met her first husband while he was serving in the Army Air Corp during World War II. They married and moved from Livorno to Indiana after his discharge in 1947.
Mrs. Bushman received her United States citizenship in 1952.
She was matron of the Carroll County Jail, and her husband Jim was sheriff from 1963 to 1970. She was then deputy assessor of Carroll County, and Jim was assessor in 1971.
Her husband Jim was appointed superintendent of Carroll Manor Home in December of 1971, and she was the matron. When he died in 1972, she was named the superintendent until she retired in August of 1998.
Mrs. Bushman was an active member at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi, a member of the Alter and Rosary Society; a eucharistic minister; Delphi American Legion; VFW Ladies Auxiliary; former Gamma Gamma Nu Sorority, past president and state president of the chapter; named Outstanding Carroll County Republican Woman of the Year 1987, and was presented a plaque by Barbara Bush at the state meeting in Indianapolis; an active member of Carroll County Republican Party; Carroll County Republican Woman's Club, where she was a past president; Carroll County Republican Century Plus Club; precinct committeeman for Deer Creek Township for several years; Westside Flower Club; former Ladies of the Moose; Carroll County Mental Health Association; Indiana County Home Association; and the Wabash & Erie Canal Association.
She enjoyed wintering in her Naples, Fla., home for many years, and enjoyed flower gardening, dancing, swimming and the ocean.
Surviving are a son, William "Bill" Coghill (wife: Darla) of West Lafayette; four daughters, Mary Anne Best (husband: Robert "Bob") of West Point, Martha Lewis (husband: Dennis) and Neda K. Duff, both of Delphi, and Cathy Lehe Watkins (husband: Doug) of Brookston; a stepdaughter, Debra S. Bushman Plough of Kokomo; a stepson, Gregory Bushman (wife: Ann) of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Nedo Bini (wife: Wilma) of Livorno, Italy; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and cousins in Italy.
Services were yesterday in Delphi, with burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
She loved her children, grand and great-grandchildren, and gave of herself to others freely.
Arrangements were made by Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to be made to the Carroll Manor Home or Carroll County Cancer Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
