Max A. George
Max A. George, 69, of Kokomo, died at 3:50 p.m. May 4, 2006, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born May 18, 1936, in Camden, he was the son of Thurlow and Vera Isaacs George. He was a 1954 graduate of Camden High School, where he played basketball and baseball.
He and Janet McNaught eloped on July 17, 1954 and were married in Indianapolis. Fifty years later they renewed their vows at their church with his cousin, the Rev. Richard Recher officiating.
The couple resided in Camden before moving to Kokomo 41 years ago.
Mr. George was a carpenter in skilled trades, working in the Chrysler Transmission Plant in Kokomo for 36 years. He retired in 2001.
He was a member and deacon at Camden First Baptist Church.
He was a former member of Kokomo Elks, a former member of Masonic Lodge #211, F&AM and Order of the Eastern Star, both at Camden.
Mr. George was an avid sports fan, especially of Purdue sports and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He held season tickets for Green Bay Packers games and made several trips annually to Green Bay to watch the "fabulous Farve."
His greatest delight in recent years was the time he shared with his great-grandson. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and greatpapaw. His favorite pastimes were his family and traveling with his wife.
Surviving with his wife are a son, Mikel George of Elletsville; a daughter, Jerilyn George of Kokomo; a daughter-in-law, Christine George of Kokomo; a brother, Robert George of Cordonville, Va.; a sister, Jean Scott of Rochester; two grandsons, Scott George of Indianapolis and Brett George (wife: Monica) of Madison, Wis.; one great-grandson, Devin Thomas George of Indianapolis; and one great-granddaughter, Cassandra George of Madison, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his loving son, Marc S. George.
Services were held Monday at the Camden First Baptist Church with Pastor Chad Hoesman officiating. Burial was at Camden Cemetery.
