Julie George Memorial run/walk set May 21

2006-05-03 / Sports

Plans are under way for the fifth annual Julie George Memorial Run/Walk. The event will be held May 21 with all proceeds benefiting the Julie George Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Featured will be a five-mile run, three-mile run or walk, and 1.5-mile walk. Registration will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Frontier High School with the runs/walks starting at 1.

The event is a celebration of the life of Julie George, who died Jan. 22, 2002, when she was a junior at Frontier High School. She was active in sports and loved to run. She is the daughter of Rick and Ann George. Rick George is Carroll's returning varsity football coach.

This non-competitive event encourages participation either alone, with family, or with friends. Pets are welcome, too. There will be snacks and a ribbon for everyone at the finish line. T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 200 registrants.

A single entry for all runners and walkers is $10 and a family entry (limit three shirts) is $25.

In the past four years, 15 scholarships totaling $12,000 have been awarded from the memorial fund. Three $750 scholarships will be awarded in May to graduating Frontier High School seniors.
