Riding on a roller coaster

Delphi Community High School physics teacher Patty Mason challenged her students to build a roller coaster. They took her up on that challenge and constructed coasters of wood, plastic tubing, cardboard, tomato cages, funnels, and odds and ends. The goal was to construct them in such a way that a marble would take exactly 13.0 seconds to make the trip. Sara Strasser, left, and Stephanie Turner, right, built The Black Widow out of tomato cages and plastic tubing. They had a successful run, as did The 13 Second Thriller, The Terrifying Treacherous Tornado Twirl, and three others. Mason said she initiated the 10-week project as a substitute
