Cake Decorating Workshops
Cake decorating workshops will be held at the 4-H Community Building in Flora. Upcoming dates are: May 8, May 22 and June 8.
Beginners will meet from 6-7 p.m., Intermediate and Advanced members will meet from 7-8 p.m. 4-H'ers should bring their practice icing and icing tips.
Livestock Workshops
4-H'ers taking livestock projects beef, sheep, swine should plan to attend the appropriate species workshop on May 9 at the 4-H Community Building in Flora. Swine will meet at 6 p.m., beef at 7 p.m. and sheep at 8 p.m. 4-H members should bring their project book to the meetings so that they can complete a project activity.
Sheep Weigh-In
All 4-H Sheep must be ear tagged, retinal image scanned and weighed by the 4-H Sheep Committee in order for them to show in 2006. This year's weigh-in date is May 6 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the 4-H fairgrounds, for those wanting to participate in the rate of gain contest. Asecond date is May 14 from 1 to 6 p.m.
Pre-registration will be on a first call basis to the Extension Office 765-564-3169.
Goat Weigh-In
All 4-H Meat Wether Goats must be ear tagged, retinal image scanned and weighed by the 4-H Goat Committee in order for them to show in 2006. This year's weigh-in date is May 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the 4-H fairgrounds. Enrollment forms are due May 15 for those having dairy goats or pygmy goats.
Premise ID Workshop
Now is the time to register all livestock premises including those housing 4-H animals. Jennifer Greiner, DVM from the Indiana State Board of Animal Health, will present a program on "Premise & Animal Identification " on May 8 at 7 p.m. at the 4-H Community Building in Flora.
The premise identification program is mandatory for all sites associated with the purchase, sale or exhibition of livestock in the state of Indiana beginning in September 2006. The animals included are cattle/bison, cervids (deer & elk), swine, sheep, goats. Not mandatory is equine, camelids (lamas), poultry & aquacultural - however they may be registered voluntarily under the state plan.
