The Rossville High School Fine Arts Department will present one of Broadway's biggest hits, Disney's Beauty & the Beast. The all-student cast is led by Caitlin Cotton, a junior, as "Belle" and Augie Pence, a senior, as "Beast."

Performances will be held Mother's Day weekend, May 12 and 13 at 7 p.m. and May 14 at 3 p.m. Reserve seating tickets may be purchased at the Rossville Fine Arts Center ticket office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. or by calling 765-3792456.

"This performance requires vibrant interaction between Beast, Belle, Lefou, Lumiere, Gaston, Mrs. Potts and others," said Linda Cleveland, director. "It's demanding, but over 100 students from first through twelfth grade, are bringing incredible life and personality to not only the stage, but also this show's beautiful and hilarious songs."

Beauty & the Beast is a classic love story of Belle, a young woman in a small, provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a prince trapped in a spell placed on him by an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the spell will be broken and he will be transformed back to his former self. But time is running out and if the Beast does not learn his lessons soon, he will be doomed for all eternity.

Released in 1991, the movie Beauty & the Beast was an instant success, becoming the only animated feature to receive the Best Picture Oscar nomination and the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture, plus many others. The Broadway show is currently in its 13th year, and is the longest running American musical and the sixth longest running show of all time.
