DAR announces Good Citizens
Moffitt Charles Carroll Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution announces the winners of the DAR Good Citizen Award from the county's two high schools.
Kelly Moffitt was chosen the winner from Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Moffitt.
She is a member of the National Honor Society. She has participated with the Hoosier Heartland Conference Math Team and was a member of the pre-calculus champion team.
She is FFA chapter vice president, district 5 reporter, and received the FFA Alumni Award and Scholarship Award.
Moffitt is a member of French Club and SWAT (Students with a Testimony).
She served as a page at the Indiana General Assembly. Other activities include being a 4-H member for nine years and being a competitive level 10 gymnast for Wright's American Gymnasticss in Greenwood.
She has been accepted to Michigan State University to study dietetics. Her goal in life is to graduate with honors from MSU and be able to find employment where she can help people live a full and enjoyable life.
Lydia Ann Smith was selected as the winner at Delphi Community High School. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Donna Smith.
Smith She is serving as class president and is in National Honor Society, French Club, and Book Club. She has received a Rotary Youth Leadership Award, Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award, and Outstanding Achievement Award in mathematics, and was a delegate to Hoosier Girls' State.
Smith is active in the Delphi United Methodist Church high school youth group and is on the youth leadership team. Last summer she went to Jamaica and helped with the construction of three small houses. She helped collect and pack a huge supply of clothes, food, and materials for the Jamaican people and missionaries there.
She is interested in a career in the medical field.
