Jack M. Carter
Jack M. Carter, 86, of Rossville passed away at 12 a.m. March 30, 2006, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 6, 1919, in Bringhurst, to Lloyd and Cora (Briggs) Carter. He married Eleanor Raff on Feb. 24, 1946, in Palo Alto, Calif., and she survives.
He graduated from Bringhurst High School in 1937 and later graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science.
Mr. Carter was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. After graduating from high school he helped his brother, Mark Carter, at his funeral home in Flora. He also helped after his time in the service.
Mr. Carter was an insurance agent while living in San Jose, Calif., until his retirement. The couple came back to the Flora area in 1983.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Flora and a past member of the Elks.
He was a very devoted husband to Eleanor. He has cared for his wife 43 years since her stroke.
He was also an avid Cubs and Purdue fan. He had also enjoyed playing golf.
Surviving are one son, Gary Carter (wife: Susan) of Annapolis, Md.; one daughter, Judy Davis (husband: Theodore E.) of Harrisburg, NC; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Patricia Spitler (husband: Bob) of Bringhurst.
One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
A memorial service was held Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Flora with Pastor Pamela Ditson-McCall officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to either the Kidney Foundation or to the Flora First Christian Church.
Reinke Funeral Home, Flora, was in charge of arrangements.
