Carroll County's Lilly Scholars are named

Mauer Mauer Carroll County's 2006 Lilly Endowment Scholars are Brittaney Mauer and Courtney Roach. Mauer is a senior at Delphi Community High School and Roach is a senior at Twin Lakes High School.

In addition to the full-tuition, four-year scholarship to an Indiana college of their choice, they will receive a stipend for required books and equipment.

Six finalists for the scholarship will each receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Carroll County Community Foundation. They are Rachel Arthur, Tyler Budreau and Kelsey Kennedy from Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School; Heather Clark and Lydia Smith from Delphi Community High School; and Zach Seibert from Clinton Prairie High School.

Each individual application was evaluated by the Carroll County Services Committee of the Community Foundation on set criteria using a scoring system. The applicants with the highest number of points were asked to interview with the committee. Final selection was made from these finalists.

Mauer is the daughter of Gary and Angeline Mauer of rural Battle Ground. She plans to attend RoseH u l m a n Institute of Technology, Terre Haute, and major in b i o m e d i c a l engineering.

Roach Roach President of N a t i o n a l Honor Society, Mauer is team captain and four-year member of the varsity girls' swim team and a four-year member of the girls' tennis team. She is a charter member of the Key Club and a member of SADD and cheer block.

Mauer will be salutatorian of her graduating class, ranking second out of 125 students.

She has received several honors including the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, Bradshaw English Award for two years, Excellence in French for three years, and Excellence in Mathematics. She was also a participant in the Richard Lugar Symposium for Tomorrow's Leaders.

In the summer of 2004 she began working at Camp Tecumseh YMCA Outdoor Camp, starting as kitchen staff, and now working with retreats. Roach of rural Monticello is the daughter of Richard II and Sharon Roach. She plans to study nursing at Anderson University.

Roach, too, ranks second in her class of 157. She is president of National Honor Society and of History Club. She is also a member of Student Council, Zion Bethel Youth Group, and 4-H. She participated in Every 15 Minutes and was a Hoosier Girls' State delegate.

Roach serves as co-captain of both the girls' cross country and girls' swim teams.

Among her awards and accomplishments include: Academic All-State, USAA National Science Merit Award, Rotary Youth Leadership Award, national Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine attendee, Scholar Athlete Award, All-Hoosier Conference, and Indiana Top Ten.

Roach worked last year for the Monticello City Pool.

The Carroll County Services Committee will host a public reception to honor the Lilly Scholars and finalists in June. Finalists

Arthur is the daughter of Steve and Tammy Arthur of rural Bringhurst. She plans to study engineering at a private Christian college, but is undecided where. She ranks first out of 84 students in her class at CJSHS.

Budreau plans to study engineering at Purdue University. He is the son of Kevin Budreau of West Lafayette and Susan Budreau of rural Camden. He ranks ninth in the senior class at CJSHS.

Clark plans to study history, but is undecided where. She ranks fifth out of her senior class at DCHS. Her parents are Scott and Rita Clark of rural Brookston.

Kennedy also ranks first in her class at CJSHS. The daughter of Joseph and Donita Kennedy of rural Cutler, she plans to study physics and is undecided where.

Seibert, who plans to study building construction management at Purdue University, ranks eleventh out of his class of 72. He resides with his uncle and aunt, David and Debra Baker of rural Delphi.

Smith is the daughter of Jeffrey and Donna Smith of Delphi. She ranks first in her class at DCHS and plans to study biology and is undecided where.
