Carroll FFA excels at district contests

Carroll FFA Chapter hosted the District V Leadership Contests on March 15. Eleven schools from the district competed.

Carroll was host because Brian Griffin, a member of the Carroll FFAChapter, is the District V president.

The Carroll Chapter set a new chapter record for the number of winners and state qualifiers. The chapter entered 24 leadership contests and placed first in 17 of them. They also placed first in 13 of 16 proficiency areas.

The chapter had two teams participating in the Parliamentary Procedure contest. Carroll's senior officer team took first place. Team members were Brian Griffin, Kelly Moffitt, Tyler Budreau, Desiray Simmons, Nicole Spesard, Courtney Rinehart, Anna Scharer, Kara Overholser.

The chapter's freshman team also placed first. Members were Travis Martin, Chandler Keown, Sarah Griffin, Malena Zook, Megan Garrison, Megan Ayres, Justin Moffitt, Kevin Knaus, Lucia Zook, Ben Bennington.

Carroll had two other first-place teams in leadership contests - Ag Issues and Ag Communications. Members of the Ag Issues team were Morgan Yoder, Kaitlyn Kennedy, Hope Hayden, Waylon Peters, Lydia Hedde, Kierstyn Harper, Katie Pearson. Members of the Ag Communications team were Brian Griffin, Kristin Arnett, Courtney Rinehart, Kierstyn Harper, Kevin Knaus.

At the awards ceremony, Brian Griffin was honored by being named Star District V Farmer.

This award is judged on scholarship, community activities, school activities and Supervised Agricultural Experience Program. Griffin will now compete for Star Section Farmer.

Carroll FFA advisors are Steve and Melissa Keown. The chapter also received valuable assistance from student teacher Kristen Baker.
