Johnie F. Holman, 82, of 3174 N. Wells St., Delphi, died at 7:08 a.m. on March 26, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette. He had been a patient there since the previous Thursday.

Born in Bow, Ky., on Dec. 13, 1923, he was the son of Jim and Fean Riddle Holman. He attended school in Burkesville, Ky.

His marriage was to Bessie Randle in Jamestown, Ky., on Oct. 15, 1943, and she preceded him in death on June 21, 1992.

Mr. Holman was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1945.

He worked at Chrysler Corp. in Detroit, Mich., for a few years, moving to Delphi and working for the former Alloy Craft (now Custom Alloy Products) for several years. He retired in 1988.

Mr. Holman was a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Delphi and Delphi American Legion Post #75.

He enjoyed vegetable gardening, auto mechanics and playing the guitar and mandolin.

Surviving are two sisters, Maddie Norris of Glasgow, Ky., and Pollie Hardin of Burkesville, Ky.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home in Delphi. Services will be there Thursday at 1 p.m., with Pastor Justin Wagner officiating. Burial with Delphi American Legion/VFW military rites will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Carroll County.

Memorials may be made to Pine Grove Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
