Richard E. Downhour
Richard E. " D i c k " Downhour, 77, of Flora, died at 5:45 p.m. March 23, 2006, at Milner Community
Health Care
C e n t e r , Rossville.
Born Aug. 13, 1928, in Galveston, he was the son of Albert and Marie Snavely Downhour. He graduated from Galveston High School in 1946.
His first marriage was in 1949 to Elaine Frushour and they later divorced. In 1974 he married Mona Jordan Porter in Mitchell, S.D., and she survives.
Mr. Downhour was a USDA meat inspector, retiring in 1997 after 29 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked as a courier for the Carroll County Comet.
He was a former member of the Galveston United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed cattle and livestock, IU basketball, and reading, especially history.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Albert Downhour of Flora and David Downhour of Indianapolis; two daughters, Pat Jordan of Indianapolis and Debra Beckner of Lafayette; three stepdaughters, Susan Craig of Syracuse, Denise Fassnacht of Flora, and Joy Depoy of Glasgow, Ky.; a sister, Dorothy Cheevers of Galveston; and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, one son, Gary R. Downhour on July 29, 1990, and his former wife in 1991.
Services were held Sunday in Galveston with the Rev. Zachary Rainey officiating. Burial was at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Diabetes Association, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
