Musical to be presented
Master's Voice Players Drama Club will present the musical, "Penny and the Magic Medallion," on Friday night at the Wabash & Erie Canal Interpretive Center, Delphi. Two performances are scheduled - 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. A limited number of free tickets are available at Delphi Public Library and the Office of Family & Children. DePauw University sophomore MEGAN L. WALTON of Delphi gained hands-on work experience while serving an internship at Dermatology of Zionsville in Zionsville during the 2006 Winter Term.
The month-long Winter Term, which takes place each January between fall and spring semesters, reflects DePauw's serious commitment to non-traditional, experiential learning. Winter Term is a time of adventurous, intellectual exploration in an atmosphere with a reduced emphasis on grades.
FAITH E. ARTHUR of Bringhurst received honorable mention for the "Outstanding Prospective Elementary School Teacher of the Year" award from Grace College for the 2005-2006 academic year. Arthur student taught kindergarten at Jefferson Elementary in Warsaw and special education at Syracuse Elementary.
Arthur was also selected for inclusion in the 2006 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Arthur is a senior at Grace College anticipating a May 2006 graduation with a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
Two Hillcrest Elementary School students placed in a state art competition. KAYLEEN BAKER, daughter of Mark and Marsha Baker and KATE LAYMAN, daughter of Jim and Sally Layman were selected to have their art displayed at Riley Hospital for Children.
The Indiana Association of School Principals, Department of Student Programs sponsored the sixth annual art contest for students in grades K-12. Accompanying each entry, the student was required to write a 100-word narrative explaining how the arts can bring a smile to those viewing artwork, as well as the role the arts play in his or her life. AJune reception is planned for the selected artists.
David and Susan Maxwell of Delphi will host a JAPANESE FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENT for the 2006 academic year. Masako Kai, a Youth For Understanding USA participant, will attend Delphi Community High School. She will learn about American culture while she shares the culture of Japan with her host family and classmates.
