Delphi aerial truck and crew are heroes at a Brookston fire. The truck, purchased the previous October, was the only truck of its kind in White and Carroll counties. The blaze was extinguished two hours after the Delphi Tri-Township Fire Department was called to make the scene. The truck and crew's contribution were deemed "heroic."

Plans are underway for the 1996 Delphi Trade Show to be held at the Delphi Community High School. The trade show is showcase of the many retail and service businesses in the local area. 25 YEARS AGO

An assassination attempt left President Reagan wounded in the chest. His press secretary James Brady was critically injured along with two law officers.

A standing-room-only crowd, including high school government students, watched 23 persons charged in connection with attending a cockfight plead guilty in Carroll County Court.

Police arrested 30 persons in a March 21 raid two miles north of Delphi.

Fire of undetermined origin leveled the old Yeoman Elevator, which had not been used for 10 years. Firemen from six departments fought the blaze for three hours. Water was a problem for the firefighters, whose efforts in most cases were centered on preventing fire damage to homes and buildings in the town. 50 YEARS AGO

The Pittsburgh School FatherSon Tilt, a basketball novelty program, was held at the Delphi Armory. Ticket prices were 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students.

Big Wayne Pearson, highest scoring and colorful Oracle basketball ace, was given a fine honor on March 22 at the annual banquet of the Hoosier Athletic Conference, held at the West Lafayette high school.

Bus lines will make schedule changes in Delphi. Buses operating through Delphi have been on a schedule of confusion this week, caused by adoption last weekend of daylight saving time by some communities in this part of Indiana. 75 YEARS AGO

New law affects the coal companies' weights, read the headline. A new law passed by the 1931 session of the Indiana legislature requires that coal companies issue to customers on all sales over 500 pounds, tickets showing net tare and gross weights of wagons and contents and the kind and quality of coal delivered.

A new state theater opened in Delphi. Robert E. Stultz of Gary, new manager of the New State Theatre of this city will have everything in order for the opening of the new State Theatre. Differences between the old and new theatres will be as obvious as night and day. 100 YEARS AGO

Fashion has decreed that girls must wear very short sleeves this summer and show as much bare arm as possible. Fashion's laws are inexorable and some of the girls and women who cannot consult a dermatologist are singeing the hair from their arms over the hot plate, which is just as conventional and less expensive. Barbers may take heed and help make this style popular to the girls who have lots of hairs on their arms. It is also said that dish water removes the hirsute growth, but this method of removal is unpopular with the younger ladies.
