Chamber of Commerce
The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce temporary board met at the Flora-Monroe Public Library on March 23.
Michelle Pearson and Michelle Cox reported on the upcoming reception and membership kick-off. It will be held at the Carroll County 4-H Community Building in Flora on April 6 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Michelle Pearson reported that Carroll County Heritage Tourism is in the final stage of preparing its brochure.
Executive director Keith Chandler reported that he will be meeting with the Indiana Chamber representative next week. He said he attended the Economic Development Corporation meeting and gave a report. EDC has an opening for a full-time director. Hiring of a full-time administrative assistant will be done after both directors have an opportunity to discuss qualifications for assistants. There is possibility that a temporary office worker may be hired.
Tri Kappa Associate
The Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa met at Stone House Restaurant in Delphi. Debbie Mears spoke about stress and the immune system.
Names are now being submitted for the Hilda Bowen scholarship.
Last year's officers were submitted as nominations for next year's officers. They were unanimously elected: Earlene Alvarez, president; Shirleen Dimmitt, vice president; Pat Duff, secretary; and Mary Brown, treasurer.
Rock Creek EH Club
Rock Creek Extension Homemakers Club met at the home of Grace Deel with Marjorie Been assisting.
John Chapman gave a talk on methamphetamines. He said 90 percent of all drug cases are meth, and it is the hardest to treat of all drug addictions. He said it causes permanent brain damage.
Roll call was answered by six members.
The anniversary of Grace Deel was recognized by song.
Marjorie Been gave devotions, reading about "The Bickles." They gave toys and clothes to needy families. They had a store for 55 years and closed it in February 2005.
The project lesson, "Saving on a Shoestring," was given by Marjorie Been. Many saving tips were given.
She also gave the health and safety lesson, including tips to stimulate the skin. Another tip was to put cat litter in socks and leave the socks in shoes overnight. This is to remove or lessen the odious smell in sneakers.
Wiladean Snoeberger gave the cultural arts report on St. Patrick's Day.
Hazel Mullin gave the citizenship lesson. She read an article she wrote about her three years while her husband was in the Army.
The next meeting will be at the home of Marjorie Been.
