A 37-year-old Burlington man is free on bond after crashing a vehicle into his house on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, William Joseph Conrad rammed his 2000 sport utility vehicle into the front porch of his residence on Easy Street. He was reportedly upset over a recent marital separation from his wife, who was actively moving from the residence at the time.

Conrad reportedly narrowly missed striking a 14-year-old girl and a nine-year-old girl who were standing on the front porch. They were able to jump clear before Conrad rammed the porch. The girls were not injured.

Afterwards, according to the report, Conrad exited his vehicle and verbally confronted his wife.

Conrad fled the area in his vehicle, but was later located in Logansport at a relative's residence where he was arrested by Logansport police.

Conrad was incarcerated in Carroll County Jail on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness with a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor, and criminal mischief, a Class D felony. He posted a $7,000 bond Saturday evening and is awaiting an initial hearing in Carroll Superior Court.

Carroll County Sheriff's Deputy Tobe Leazenby responded to the 911 call. Assisting him with the investigation are Deputy Steve Mullin, Logansport Police Department and the Carroll County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Sheriff's authorities had responded to the Conrad residence the previous day (March 10) for a report of a verbal confrontation involving the couple.

According to the report, police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.
