Delphi Middle School swimmers break records

The Delphi Community Middle School swim team won two of three recent meets.

They defeated Pioneer 144-41, winning 11 of 12 events. The 400 freestyle relay team of Andrew Burton, Keaton Garrison, Jared Kelley and Brent Kremer smashed the school record of 4:26.63 with a time of 4:09.69. Burton also broke his backstroke record with a 1:05.68 finish.

Against Rensselaer, the Oracles lost 112-74. Burton won the 50 butterfly and Chelsey Marcotte won diving.

The Oracles defeated Benton Central 120.5-60.5, again winning 11 of 12 events. Burton, Kelley and Kremer were quadruple winners. Those three teamed with Garrison to win the 200 medley relay and with Abbey Mose to win the 400 free relay. Kelley broke his IM record with a time of 1:11.53 as well as winning the 100 breaststroke. Burton won the 50 freestyle and broke his 50 butterfly record with a time of 27.48.

Carroll 7th finish undefeated

Carroll 7th grade girls basketball team wrapped up a perfect 170 season by winning the title at the Clinton Central Tournament on March 4 and defeating Winamac on the road March 8.

The Lady Cougars defeated the Clinton Central Lady Bulldogs in the tournament opener 37-18 and clenched the trophy with a 40-31 defeat of a tough Tri Central opponent in the championship.

Jessica Yoder led the Lady Cougars in the opener with 14 points, while Quinci Eller added 13. Victoria Henderson supplied 7, Cayla Macaluso 2, and Hannah Scott 1. In the title game, Eller sparked the team with 21, while Yoder had 9, Henderson 6, and Scott 4.

In the fitting season finale, Eller and Yoder both finished with their season average 14 points to seal the perfect season with a 32-25 defeat of a good Winamac team.

Other season highlights were a 27-23 defeat of county rival, Delphi; a 23-22 victory over the Northwestern Tigers; and a 5215 win at Logansport Lincoln.

The Cougars head coach was Rick Eller, with Jessica Huffer assisting.

DCMS teams are winners

Logansport Columbia was easily defeated last week by Delphi Community Middle School girls' seventh and eighth grade teams.

Delphi 8th won by a score of 36-11 with Brittany Nelson leading the way with 19 points. Hannah Evans added 11, Jordan Walker and Amber Blackburn, 2 each, and Cassie Oliver and Kaitlan Harber, 1 each. Delphi 7th grade won by a score of 45-11. Leading scorers were Brittani Rhodes with 14, Chanler Norman with 11 and Grace Mears with 8. The 8th grade also defeated Rossville 27-15. Nelson was again high scorer for the Lady Oracles with 14 points. D. Burge added 8, Evans 5, and Walker 1. The 8th grade Lady Oracles ended their season on a high note, winning their last five games, including the White County Tourney. The team is coached by Tim Kingery.
