DCMS 7th Ladies are tourney runners-up

The Delphi Community Middle School 7th grade Lady Oracles finished second in the White County tournament held Saturday.

The Oracles defeated Frontier in the first game, 3315. Contributing for Delphi were Chanler Norman with 8 points and 5 steals; Jordyn Bieghler, 6 points; Grace Mears, 6 points; Brittani Rhodes, 5 points and 4 steals; Carli Rouhier, 4 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals; Randee Schultz, 2 points and 5 rebounds; and Allee Flora with 2 points.

In the championship game, the Oracles were defeated 40-29 in a rough game against Tri-County. Leading the way for Delphi were Norman with 8 points, 5 steals, and 3 assists; Schultz, 8 points and 6 rebounds; Rhodes, 6 points and 5 rebounds; Mears 3 points; and Bieghler and Rouhier, each with 2 points.

DCMS swim team off to recording-setting start

The Delphi Community Middle School “A” swim team opened its season with an 82-20 win over South Newton. The DCMS swimmers won all 12 events, breaking four school records in the process.

Quadruple winner Jared Kelley started the record breaking, with a time 1:14.46 in the 100 IM, replacing Kendall Ross’s 2002 record of 1:14.67.

Andrew Burton, also a quadruple winner, set 3 records. His 50 free time of 25.46 replaced his last year’s record of 26.65. His time of 55.12 in the 100 free also replaced his last year’s record of 59.76.

Burton was teamed with Kelley, Alex Price and quadruple winner Brent Kremer in the 200 free relay with a winning time of 1:55.84, breaking the record of 1:57.01, set last year.

Other first place winners were: 200 medley relay team of Payton Windell, Jordan Hudelson, Grace Currie and Vaneissa Rohrman, 200 Free – Kremer; 400 Free – Kremer; Diving Chelsey Marcotte; 50 Butterfly – Currie; 100 Backstroke Abi Leahy; 100 Breaststroke Kelley; and 400 free relay team of Keaton Garrison, Kyle Miller, Rohrman and Abbey Mose.

Last Thursday the DCMS swim teams lost a hard fought meet, 94-92, to Twin Lakes. Burton was a quadruple winner again, setting four DCMS records. Burton’s 50 butterfly time of 27.53 broke his last year’s record of 29.15. His 100 backstroke time of 1:08.85 broke Kyle Price’s record of 1:12.65 set last year. Burton teamed with triple winner Kelley, Garrison and double winner Kremer to win the 200 medley relay. That foursome also smashed Tuesday’s 200 free relay record with a time of 1:51.90. Burton’s lead off in that relay set the 50 free record, with a time of 24.93. The only other DCMS first place went to Marcotte in diving.

The DCMS “B” swim team also opened its season against the Indians. While not officially scored, the B team won 8 of 11 events. First places went to the 200 medley relay team of Justin Chorrushi, Sterling Saiz, Emily Layman and Annie Mose; Mose won the 200 free; Taylor Thompson took the 100 IM; Bridget Floyd won diving; Saiz took the butterfly event; Chorrushi, 50 Backstroke; Jessie Morrison, 50 Breaststroke; and the 400 free relay team of Thompson, Layman, Mose and Jonell Randle.
