At the Dec. 13 town council meeting, Camden town leaders warned residents to disclose no financial information to callers representing themselves as housing grant authorities.

“Give no information out until the next housing grant meeting,” town clerk-treasurer Pat Casserly stated. “The people who need your information already have it.”

Casserly said there have been two instances reported that residents have been contacted “on behalf” of housing grant specialists requesting bank account numbers. Callers said they would deposit grant money directly into residents’ accounts. Casserly stressed that grant money will go directly to the contractors, not to residents.

Council president Ralph Rohrabaugh encouraged any resident with questions to call the town office or grant administrators Star Development. The next housing grant meeting will be in January.

Salary ordinance 2005-8 was amended to allow deposits of $12,000 into the health savings account for town employees. Funds for the expense were appropriated in the 2006 budget. According to Rohrabaugh the action will provide a significant savings to the town.

Ordinance 2005-7 to repeal ordinance 1997-13, which allowed town employees compensatory time, was approved.

Resolution 2005-D to extend the waste water loan from the general fund for six months was approved.

Resolutions 2005-B authorizing application for a state revolving fund loan and community development block grant for 500,000, and 2005-C to accept the preliminary engineering report for improvements to the waste water treatment plant, were approved.

Rohrabaugh announced the town’s desire to encourage residents to dispose of old cars and debris in a timely manner.

“It’s a hard situation to deal with,” town attorney Anne Briggs summarized after providing a written legal opinion to town leaders.

Consensus was to have an indepth discussion of the situation at a future meeting.

Council members stressed the need for residents to pay their water bills by 4 p.m. on the 20th of every month to avoid shut-off.

The next scheduled date for recycling is Jan. 14.

A year-end meeting to pay final bills will be Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. The next regularly scheduled town council meeting will be Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.
