Burlington Town Council passed compensation ordinances for 2006 at the Dec. 14 regular meeting. The only other business discussed was paying town bills, which totaled $89,141.79.

Town Marshal Jill Hammond reported she had assisted the county with a pursuit which ended up at the intersection of County Roads 600 S. and 350 E. where the suspect was apprehended. She also reported that a homeless man from Colorado was hanging out at the Methodist Church and she escorted him a few miles down the road, closer to his destination of Indianapolis.

At last month’s meeting, town resident Jim Dance inquired about his property and a right-ofway. Town attorney Anne Briggs said she has found a discrepancy in the town plat and the county plat. She suggested Dance have his attorney, along with the county commissioners, determine which plat is right and then proceed. She said that if it is determined to be a right-of-way, the procedure would be the same as closing an alley, where all adjacent landowners would have to be notified and a petition filed.
