Camden girls basketball team, 1925-26 Camden girls basketball team, 1925-26 10 YEARS AGO

Carroll has captured the IHSAA Class A football crown, after defeating Tri West at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. It is the first team state championship ever recorded by a team from Carroll County. Trailing at the half 13-12, the Cougars came back to win 26-13.

A Christmas Home Tour will be held Sunday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. featuring homes in the Deer Creek area.

Former schoolteacher Gerald Clingenpeel is the 12th Pete award winner. The award is named after the late DeVere “Pete” Hoffman and presented by the Flora Lions Club.

Caroll’s Lindsey Payne and Delphi’s Joy Newell have named to the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association academic all-state volleyball team. 25 YEARS AGO

A unique Victorian street clock has been installed at the entrance of Hometown Federal savings & Loan Association in Delphi. The only one of its kind in Indiana, the clock incorporates an electronic system which reproduces the tones of an actual carillon, using small metal rods which have been tuned to create the tone of heavy cast bronze bells.

The Hopewell North United Presbyterian Church in Deer Creek is getting a facelift and major remodeling job, thanks to church members. The building was originally built in 1892 and remodeled in 1950.

Darrel K. Diamond has been named Referee of County Court Division, Carroll Circuit Court by Judge Donald R. Myers. 50 YEARS AGO

Carroll County’s remodeled jail and residence for the county sheriff was accepted by county commissioners last week. The residence erected in 1872 was taken down and replaced by a new three-bedroom building.

Announcement has been made of the sale of Pat’s Restaurant, 108 E. Main St. to Robert Coomey. The new owner will take charge of the restaurant this weekend. 75 YEARS AGO

Organization of the Freeman Lake Sportsmen’s Club by a group of Indianapolis men was announced Thursday. Articles of incorporation for the club were drawn up at a conference at the Hotel Lincoln and were to be filed immediately with the secretary of state. The club has leased for 10 years a 12-acre tract of land on Lake Freeman, just north of Delphi, together with a three-story hotel to be used as a clubhouse. The clubhouse will be used as a lodge for fisherman and their families.

The Delphi Oracles will be out to mar the records of two unbeaten teams this week when they tackle Lafayette Jefferson Friday night and East Chicago Roosevelt Saturday night. All proceeds from the Friday night contest will given to charity. Every effort is being made to fill the big gym to its capacity of 6,000 and a Jefferson-Delphi tilt always produces plenty of thrills and action. 100 YEARS AGO

With a noise resembling the approach of Santa Claus on the eve of the 25th of December, eight young school girls tripped into the high school to resume their daily vocation but they were quickly sent home by the principal.

The young women were guilty of following an eastern fad of wearing bells on their garters. They will not be allowed to re-enter school until they make apologies to the professor, who said that “telephonic” apologies will not work.
