Frank Snipes, formerly of Cutler and Flora, will celebrate his 90th birthday on Sept. 2.

He is a retired farmer and member of the Cutler Presbyterian Church.

He would enjoy receiving cards or visits at Milner Community Health-Care Inc., 370 E. Main Street, Rossville, IN 46065.

A celebration supper is planned with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hanaway is named Monroe Twp. trustee

The Carroll County Republican Central Committee recently appointed Sarah Hanaway as Monroe Township trustee to fill the unexpired term of Kenneth Fife. Fife’s term ends Dec. 31. He resigned in early July when he and his wife moved to Brownsburg.

Hanaway is the Republican candidate for the position on the November ballot. There is no Democratic candidate.

Indiana Beach Amusement Resort, Monticello, will hold its first annual “We Will Survive” fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society. The event will be held on Sept. 11. Resort hours will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the traditional ACS Luminaria Walk starting at 9 p.m. on Indiana Beach’s famed Boardwalk fronting Lake Shafer.

Carroll County Sheriff Tony Burns has requested on many occasions that community members be the “eyes and ears” for his department to help curb crime. One county couple heard Burn’s message and applied it to not only help a neighbor but they also helped to apprehend three suspects.

91-year-old twins still in harmony

Earl and Ernest Wolf are 91- year-old twins. They grew up in Carroll County, but Earl now lives in Rossville, and Ernest lives in Roanoke, Va. The two keep in touch by talking on the phone.

Six years ago, Earl went to Virginia to visit his brother. They thought that might be the last time they could get together.

Dennis and Joretta Boyd will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary on Monday.

A celebration is being held in Indianapolis on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at 6250 Royal Alley Place, Indianapolis. It is being hosted by Joretta’s children, Ted and Leslie Fenstermacher and Kathy Martin.

The couple were long-time Carroll County residents but now reside in Indianapolis.

Registration is under way for Camp Bluebird, an adult retreat for cancer survivors, to be held Oct. 27-28 at Camp Tecumseh’s Leadership Center near Delphi. The camp is sponsored by St. Elizabeth Regional Health.

The two-day, one-night retreat is an informal educational experience in a relaxed, nature-filled environment.

The Friends of the Carroll County Parks is holding a scrap metal fundraising drive Sept. 7 through Oct. 1 at Deer Creek Park, located on SR 218W. near the junction of SR 29 in Deer Creek.

A dumpster will be placed at the park to accept scrap metal from cars, trucks, farm equipment, etc. Freon from appliances, tires, or regular trash will not be accepted.

Ruth L. Snyder of Delphi died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi, one day after her 95th birthday. She had resided there the last seven months.

Born Aug. 29, 1915, in McMinnville, Tenn., she was the daughter of George Washington and Ethel Brewer Snipes. She eloped on Dec. 24, 1936, with Mack Snyder, who preceded her in death March 11, 1989.

Charles E. Peek, 81, of Bluffton, formerly of Delphi passed away at 3:05 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 7, 1928, in Millersburg, Ohio, he was the son of Penn C. and Florence King Peek. His family moved to Bluffton in 1933. On July 1, 1950, at the Markle Methodist Church, he married Carolyn Sue Line, who survives.
