Murray’s 40 helps Oracles best Cougars

Carroll (5-11, 1-3) went 1 and 2 in play last week. They stopped their six-game skid with a conference win at Clinton Central (2-14, 1-3) and lost a pair of home games – Friday a heartbreaker to county rival Delphi (9-6) in overtime 75-69 and Saturday a lackluster defensive effort cost the Cougars as Clinton Prairie (7-9, 1-3) claimed the 65-49 win.

Oracles win in another OT

Perhaps for the first time in the history of the program, Delphi won back-to-back overtime games on the road over the weekend with a 58-51 victory at Hoosier Conference foe Rensselaer Saturday night, after winning 75-69 in OT at Carroll Friday night.

Lady Oracles drop road games

The Delphi Lady Oracles gave a valiant effort at 3A #5 Benton Central, but fell 60-38 to the Lady Bison. Delphi employed a triangle and 2 defense and forced the Lady Bison to shoot from outside. The strategy worked for most of the game as Benton Central only made 6 of 33 threepointers.

Girls Sectional

The Girls Basketball Class 2A Delphi Sectional got under way last night. The second round is Friday with Seeger playing the winner at 6 p.m. of Tuesday’s first contest between Fountain Central and Sheridan. Tuesday’s second game winner between Clinton Central and Delphi will play Carroll in Friday night’s second game at 7:30.

Cougars fall to Falcons, Cavaliers

Carroll Lady Cougars ended their regular season with an 11-9 overall record, falling Thursday evening on Senior Night in a hard fought battle with Frontier, 39-32. The Cougars had opportunities, created by their defense on the 15-2 Falcons, forcing 27 turnovers. The problem was converting on those opportunities, including 8 of 16 attempts from the free throw line for the game.

Two Oracle wrestlers win titles; five advance

Five Oracle wrestlers will continue their quest to the state championship after advancing out of the Logansport Regional last weekend. They will compete Saturday in the Merrillville Semi-State.

Tanner Lynde raised his win record to 44-0 for the season, winning the championship at 182. He has been ranked number 1 in the state all year at that weight class.
