IRS-certified Ivy Tech accounting students will provide free tax help to qualified income tax filers through April 6. Tax assistance will be available on the second floor of Ivy Hall in room 2337, located on the Ivy Tech campus at 3101 S. Creasy Lane in Lafayette. Tax filers must make an appointment by calling (765) 269-5848. Times are available Tuesdays through Saturdays.

AARP representatives will once again be available on Tuesdays from 9-3 at the Carroll County Senior & Family Service Administration Offices for free tax preparation for low and middle income individuals. Appointments are available each Tuesday through April 11.

Newville is found guilty

A Howard County court last week convicted 49-year-old Steven Newville, formerly of Flora, of attempted rape, criminal confinement, battery, receiving stolen property, and of being a habitual offender. He was acquitted of attempted robbery.

Newville was on trial for the March 9 attack of a woman in a parking lot in Kokomo.

Carroll County Commissioners decided at the Monday morning meeting to work with Delphi Community High School Advanced Interactive Media students to establish a dedicated Carroll County government presence on the Internet.

Farm Bureau to build new building

Carroll County Farm Bureau representatives Mike Beale and Shawn Ashby presented plans for a new building to be constructed on a recently acquired Monroe St. site, adjacent to the office located on Washington St. in Delphi. It was reported that Farm Bureau plans to break ground for the new office building at the first of April. The site of the current building will become a parking lot.

City approves DPS grant proposal

Delphi City Council members voted to support a $400,000 grant proposal to the Indiana Office of Community Rural Affairs (OCRA) for Community Focus Funds to rehabilitate the Delphi Opera House. The Opera House is owned by the Delphi Preservation Society. Grant sponsorship by a governmental agency is a grant requirement.
