Energy assistance options available for NIPSCO customers
      According to a Northern Indiana Public Service Company, the state’s moratorium ended March 15 and NIPSCO reminds low-income customers with outstanding balances that a number of assistance programs and payment arrangements are available to help customers with utility bills.

Mayor to hold public meeting about building purchase
      Delphi Mayor Randy Strasser told the three out of five city council members present for the March 1 meeting that it is nearly time for the public to be involved as plans progress toward the purchase of part of the Globe Valve property on North Washington St.

Homes in Camden to benefit from grant monies
      It was announced at last Thursday night’s Camden Town Council meeting that 12 houses will receive improvements through a $250,000 grant received from the Indiana Housing Authority. Star Development, grant administrator, will select which homes qualify for improvements. Criteria will be determined by the town.

Applications still being accepted for AEDs
      St. Elizabeth Regional Health’s Revive and Survive program places cardiac defibrillators (AEDs) with non-profit organizations in Tippecanoe and surrounding counties. The Kathryn Weil Center for Education oversees the program, as well as works with other groups who fall outside the Revive & Survive guidelines but are still in need of AEDs.

     As the weather becomes warmer, thoughts naturally turn to summer camps. This summer, Camp Tecumseh YMCA will offer Day Camp for children from Carroll and the surrounding counties. The camp will host an open house from 2 to 6 p.m. on April 18.

      Hoosiers looking to improve their job skills can now take advantage of free online training through a limited time offer by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD). Access to these free online training courses is open to all Hoosiers. Governmental and not-for-profit organizations can sign up for multiple licenses to benefit their employees.

County resident complains about lack of building code enforcement
      Jefferson Township resident Dana Smith made an impassioned plea for a county building inspector at the Feb. 23 Carroll County Area Plan Commission meeting. Smith said he has been in home construction since 1993 and was prompted to make a presentation by actions of a neighbor that he believes should have been regulated.

Census important for federal funding to communities
      You’ve probably received your 2010 Census form now, or soon will. Filling it out is required by law. With only 10 questions, the Census Bureau estimates that it will take only about 10 minutes to complete. All answers are kept confidential. Anyone who has questions about the form or doesn’t receive a form can receive assistance in Carroll County.

National Weather Service offers storm spotter class
      Carroll County Emergency Management Director Dave McDowell announced Tuesday there will be a free National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Spotter class on March 31 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wabash & Erie Canal Interpretive Center in Delphi.
