Chapter 10:
School of Surprises
- What part of the new Goldenrod School do you like best? What words would you use to describe the mood at the opening of the new school? Who do you think was the most pleased with the ways things turned out?
- The author gave this story a big surprise ending. Did you have any clue that FreeZee might make such a choice? Think back over some of the things that FreeZee said and did in previous chapters. Do you think he will be successful? Why?
- Now that you have read the entire story, what part of the adventure do you think the students enjoyed most? What do you think was the highlight for Ms. Roosevelt? What was your favorite part?
ADVANCED ACTIVITIES
- Write the news story that will appear in the local paper the day after the grand opening of the new Goldenrod School. Don’t forget to include the facts about the new school as well as quotes from some of the people involved.
- Imagine you are in charge of one area of the First Amendment room at Goldenrod. Which right would you choose to emphasize? What are some ideas you might implement to teach other students more about the rights provided by the First Amendment?
